Most of us are already aware of many interesting facts about women. For example, that they have a better sense of smell, a more developed intuition, and there has even been a link discovered between the size of a woman’s and her intelligence. Nevertheless, psychologists and other scientists still struggle trying to find the answers to women’s ways of thinking and their extraordinary skills. Luckily, they occasionally manage to prove their ’womanish’ theories. We collected some research that might help men understand their women better. Women themselves will also learn something new about their nature.

1. The fewer clothes a woman wears, the higher the chances are for her to live longer.

British scientists came to this conclusion when they conducted research with the participation of more than 5,000 women over the age of 70. There are several theories that explain this interconnection, but the most convincing one relates to chemistry. To be more clear, the leftovers of chemical substances that stay on clothes after washing start a chemical reaction with sweat. Those reactions create harmful compounds that affect the health negatively.

2. Stimulating a pregnant woman’s can induce labor.

This can happen if the woman is full term. Rolling or rubbing a pregnant woman’s causes the release of oxytocin — the hormone that leads to the ripening of the cervix, which in turn induces labor contractions. By the way, this is the same hormone that contracts after childbirth helping it to get back to its usual size. Oxytocin also helps to speed up the delivery process by several times. There was an experiment held in Turkey: 390 pregnant women were randomly assigned to one of 3 groups: one with uterine stimulation, one with and a control group with neither, while being on labor. Women from the group with stimulation experienced the shortest time for labor and delivery.

3. There are more women with poor eyesight than men.

There are behavioral and environmental factors that increase the risk of eyesight issues regardless of a person’s gender. But there are specific nuances that are directly related to women only. First, it’s connected to their longer lifespan and eye problems that appear due to their age. Second, women are more prone to some eye illnesses — for example, a dry eye syndrome which is supposedly connected with hormones. There are 2-3 times fewer men with this syndrome than women.

4. Fair hair is an indicator of fertility.

Fair hair has a direct link to a high estrogen level in the gore, which plays a big role in reproductive development, predominantly in women. That’s why it’s not surprising that blonde girls have a higher fertility rate. By the way, it’s because of this hormone that we have the stereotype about the stupidity of blonde women because their way of thinking can be linked to emotions, intuition, and feelings—things that are heightened when there is an increased level of estrogen. After having her first child, a blonde girl’s hair starts to get darker because the level of estrogen decreases and her hair will get even darker after her second child. The decrease in estrogen results in only a small amount of natural blondes above the age of 30.

5. Women’s love for pink came from their ancestors.

It’s likely that women inherited their preference for the color pink from their ancestors in their female lineage. They were the gatherers, collecting different edible fruits and berries. The work of women was of great importance for the maintenance of the health and life of their offspring. They had to learn to distinguish ripe fruit from unripe fruit and be able to see it from afar, faster than others. Generally speaking, the color perception of women is much larger than for men which is why there are almost no color-blind women.

6. The smell of their beloved man calms a woman down.

Scientists from the University of British Columbia conducted research and found out that the smell of a beloved man helps decrease a woman’s level of stress. 96 couples took part in this experiment. Men were given clean T-shirts that they were supposed to wear for one day. Afterward, the T-shirts were randomly given to women without explaining whose T-shirt they received. As a result, it was found that those girls who got the T-shirt of their partner felt less stress during the test. While the women that inhaled the smell of a stranger had high levels of cortisol — the stress hormone, which made them feel more annoyed and tired.

7. Girls get a real pleasure from talking.

It’s well-known that women talk 3 times more than men, pronouncing about 20,000 words per day; men in contrast say about 7,000 words daily. It was found that this feature is not only connected with their love for gossiping, but also from the pleasure of hearing their own voice. The book ’The Female Brain,’ written by female psychiatrist Louann Brizendine, says that a woman’s brain initially has more cells responsible for the speech functions. That’s the reason why the simple act of speaking causes a hormone release that leads to the same feeling of euphoria and joy that a long-awaited cake for a sweet tooth does.

8. Women have a weakness for animals because they remind them of babies.

Do you remember that heart-touching tenderness you feel when looking at a small baby? Girls are literally ready to squeak by just looking at toddlers. The proportions of kids’ faces are much different from the faces of adults — big eyes, high forehead, plump cheeks, and a small chin. All of these outer signs subconsciously program a woman to take care of this baby that she perceives as a tiny and helpless creature. As it turns out, animals like cats, raccoons, rabbits, and dogs of small breeds have similar contrasting proportions and create the same impression of a vulnerable baby who needs care and protection. Also, smaller animals are able to maintain the appearance of a helpless baby their whole life because they don’t change much as they grow up, while babies can’t. So finally, it becomes clear that this paradox is directly connected with a maternal instinct which is also supported by the modern inclination of people to humanize pets.

9. Women see more colors.

Ever argued with your female friend over those white curtains that she claimed to be either eggshell or cream? Well, that’s due to women seeing on average 20% more differences in colors and shapes.

10. The female bo-dy has a lower resistance to liquor.

Believe it or not, but liquor is even more hazardous for women as they are more prone to liver disease like hepatitis (an inflammation of the liver) and are more likely to loose life from liver cirrhosis (a chronic disease). It is also more likely that women will suffer brain problem from liquor like loss of mental functions and reduced brain size.

11. Maturity is attractive.

And not only because of the Oedipus complex. Various studies have shown that a woman is more attractive the more fertile she looks, so women who have given birth, grown into a very feminine bo-dy, or do not use birth control are way more attractive to men. Men also read it in a woman’s odor and the pitch of their voice.

12. The average woman will eat 4 lb of lipstick in her lifetime.

When you take the average number of lipsticks bought throughout a lifetime and their average wearability, it comes down to women licking off or eating with food about 4 lb of lipstick in their life. That translates to 533.76 lipsticks. Of course, for some women, this number is way too big (or not big enough), so that’s why it’s an average — it varies with country and culture.

13. They hate taking risks

You might have noticed that women are worse risk-takers than men, and there is actually a scientific reason for that. The anterior cingulate cortex, the part of the brain that weighs options when making a decision, is larger in women than in men. Some argue that this was evolution’s way of making women better caretakers and saving the “tribe” when gathering food and structuring social life.

14. They might make their men fat.

Surprisingly, a lot of men in long-term relationships are getting bigger, and that might be the doing of their women. They go into a “taking care” mode that results in feeding their partner excessively (with the intention of having a strong “warrior” by their side). There is also the unconscious intention of making a man less attractive to other females.

15. Style over comfort

This curiosity does not have a scientific explanation — rather a social one. Society and media have been pressing women for centuries to hold themselves to a certain standard, be it small feet or a perky behind, and that results in the majority of women choosing stylish presentation over comfort.

16. The brain cells are packed more densely in the female brain.

On average, the female brain is 9% smaller than its male counterpart. But this has no effect on cognitive abilities since the cell count is the same and they are just packed densely.

17. They are the unsung heroes of inventions.

Mary Anderson invented the windshield wiper in 1903. In addition, women over the years have patented: disposable diapers, paper bags, nonreflective glass, the foot-pedal trash can, the dishwasher, and many other innovations.

18. Heels were for men.

In the 1600s, heels were brought into women’s fashion to mimic the men who wore heels as a sign of their masculinity and status.

19. Reading faces

From the very beginning of their lives, women are better at reading faces, gestures, and voice tones, which makes them superior conversationalists and social leaders. Even in a group of people, all the social interactions would probably be led by an alpha-type female than an alpha male.

This is how people reacted to this post:

Chris - Most women, in my opinion, don't dress up for men, they dress up for other women. I think it's like a little competition.

jenna - Ive always said women are amazing misterious beings.

Jacob - I choose comfort over style, and don't understand the difference between creme and eggshell, it's just white!! Women eat 4 lbs of lipstick in their lifetime. One of the many reasons why I don't wear makeup.

Krav - There is only one woman's voice that I remember as having a massive and immediate effect on me that I still recall to this day. She was about 17-18 years old, small framed and probably just below average height…and she had this husky, velvety, rich voice that wasn't low or manly but was definitely NOT high pitched.

Beth Bartlett - Ok, some are true but, I LOVE comfort over style! That is actually my style!

Cherry - I've eaten so much lipstick in my life when I was like 5 I eat ALL my moms lipstick

Aleena - What surprised me was the inventions I see everyday were made by women. That’s awesome! Go women!
